Precast Cable Trenches
LAYING CABLES WITH A TECHNOLOGY THAT’S ABLE
Cable trenches are available in wide range of sizes starting from 600mm to 1500mm in width and 600mm to 1500mm in height.
These trenches can be used for indoor and outdoor applications. They come with cover slabs, which are designed for various load conditions.
These are factory made, casted in a closed environment, having superior quality and well suited for fast paced construction.

Material Specification
- Concrete: Grade 40 to Grade 45
- Steel: Fe500
- Nominal Cover: 25mm
Requirements
- Density of backfill soil should be minimum 18 Kn/m³.
- Backfill material adjacent to side wall should be of granular type.
- Backfilling and compaction to be performed layer by layer alternatively.
Design Criteria
Structural design of the Cable Trenches are in accordance with:
BS 5400 : Part 4 : 1990 | BD 31/01 | MS 1293 : Part 1 : 1992
IRC 6 – Cl 214.1.1.3 | IS 456 : 2000
Load Categories
Light Duty
Designed for lateral earth pressure and a live load of 150 Kg/m². Suitable for human load only – no vehicle movement allowed.
Medium Duty
Designed for lateral earth pressure and live load surcharge for 1.2 m earth fill. Vehicles can pass adjacent to the drain wall.
Heavy Duty
Designed for lateral earth pressure, live load surcharge (1.2 m fill), and heavy vehicle movement over the drain. Includes heavy-duty cover slabs.
Additional Information
In cable trenches, it is important that water should not get stagnated inside, which is very much possible in conventional trenches.
In precast trenches, since there will be no joints, the chance of water permeating is not possible.
For additional protection, it is better to put a layer of HDPE sheet before erection.
In open areas, rainwater entering through cover slabs must be properly drained. Cable trays can be fixed on trench walls using Hilti anchors for perfect line and level.
